Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program 2010-2011

The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program will provide opportunities to up to eight Indian secondary school teachers (9th to 12th grades) of English, Mathematics, or Science to participate in direct exchange of positions with US teachers for the semester beginning August/September 2010. Indian teachers selected for this exchange will have the opportunity to work within a US school system and experience US society and culture. Similarly, US teachers will work in an Indian school and share their expertise. The perspective will benefit both the Indian and US teachers and flow through to their students, schools and communities.

Duration of the Grant: One semester (August-December 2010/January 2011)

Eligibility Requirements
In addition to the General Prerequisites, the applicant should:
have a master's degree in English, Mathematics, or Science subjects with a teacher training degree;
be a full time teacher (9th to 12th grades) with five or more years of experience in a recognized secondary school; and
must be eligible to obtain leave with pay during the period of exchange.
School's Agreement to Host
Direct exchange of teaching assignments requires that the Indian school also agree to accept a teacher from the US. The Indian school will have no financial obligations with regard to the US teacher. However, the school should be willing to facilitate housing for the US teacher. Both the US and Indian teachers must secure a leave of absence with pay.

If an Indian teacher is proposed for an exchange, his/her school will have the opportunity to review the credentials of the US teacher who will be exchanging the position with the Indian teacher, and to accept or reject the proposed exchange arrangement. In order for an exchange to take place, it must be accepted by the US teacher, the US school administrators, the Indian teacher and the Indian school administrators, and must be approved by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB). The US exchange teacher requires clearance by the Government of India.

Grant Benefits
The grant will provide a monthly stipend, round-trip economy class air travel, modest settling-in and material allowance, and accident and sickness coverage per US Government guidelines.

Note: No allowance or travel is provided for dependents and the stipend provided under the grant is not sufficient to support family members. Scholars with accompanying dependents must have adequate personal funds to support their stay in the US.

Nova Southeastern University Online/Distance programs

Nova Southeastern University is the 10th largest independent university in the country and a pioneer of non-traditional approaches to high-quality education. NSU has been included on Princeton Review's list of The Best Online/Distance Learning Graduate Schools.

Nova Southeastern University offers several of its degree programs through Online/distance education delivery systems. At Nova Southeastern University, Online/distance education refers to classes delivered at or to sites outside the Fort Lauderdale area. For example, classes held at cluster sites in Dade or Palm Beach counties, as well as sites in another state or country, are considered distance education sites.

Get Early Childhood Education Degree Online

Western Governors University, the only all-online teachers college to earn NCATE accreditation, is now enrolling students for its new B.A. in Early Childhood Education degree program. The program, which focuses on development and education of children from birth through third grade, provides a degree and certification path for individuals who are currently working with young children as well as those who wish to become teachers in daycare centers, preschools, and primary elementary school grades.

Despite the growing need for degreed professionals in this field, online programs are rare, and WGU offers the only all-online bachelor's degree program designed to prepare students for initial licensure as classroom teachers. For many individuals who are currently working in daycare centers and preschools, work schedules, family obligations, and finances make it difficult, if not impossible, to attend a conventional college or university to earn a degree. WGU provides these individuals -- as well as those who want to start a career or change careers -- an affordable, accessible, and practical way to meet their educational goals.

WGU's Teachers College is one of the nation's largest teacher preparation schools, with students in all 50 states. Its unique competency-based model is ideal for working adults who have professional experience and prior education, allowing them to complete their degrees more quickly without compromising quality.

Academic Earth world-class education Online

Academic Earth is an organization dedicated to making world-class education available to everyone in the world. Their initial efforts involve making available videos of courses from the materials that major universities have already made available through programs such as MIT Open Courseware and Open Yale Courses. The nice thing is that it seems to act as a central location for viewing all of these materials, rather than having to jump between the websites maintained by different universities.

What they say -:
Academic Earth is an organization founded with the goal of giving everyone on earth access to a world-class education.

As more and more high quality educational content becomes available online for free, we ask ourselves, what are the real barriers to achieving a world class education? At Academic Earth, we are working to identify these barriers and find innovative ways to use technology to increase the ease of learning.

We are building a user-friendly educational ecosystem that will give internet users around the world the ability to easily find, interact with, and learn from full video courses and lectures from the world’s leading scholars. Our goal is to bring the best content together in one place and create an environment that in which that content is remarkably easy to use and in which user contributions make existing content increasingly valuable.

We invite those who share our passion to explore our website, participate in our online community, and help us continue to find new ways to make learning easier for everyone.

Free University of Berlin Information

The Free University of Berlin (FU Berlin, German: Freie Universität Berlin) is the second largest of the four universities in Berlin. Research at the university is focused on humanities and social sciences and on health and natural sciences. In October 2007, it was awarded "elite university" status by the German Science Foundation for the quality of its research through the Initiative for Excellence of the German government, which will translate into additional funding.

Freie Universität Berlin is a leading research institution. It is one of nine German universities that met with success in all three funding lines in the federal and state Excellence Initiative, thereby receiving additional funding for its institutional future development strategy. Freie Universität can thus take its place as an “International Network university” in the global competition among universities. Its future development strategy is focused around three strategic centers: for cluster development, for international exchange, and for graduate studies. Development and assessment of research projects takes place within three major focus areas – area studies, humanities, and life sciences. Freie Universität has various offices abroad, e.g., in New York, Beijing, and Moscow, that provide a platform for international cooperation. The university’s performance in the Excellence Initiative has provided funding for several new graduate schools and transdisciplinary research clusters.

The Times Higher Education Supplement world rankings in Arts and Humanities of 2008 place the FU Berlin 3rd best in Europe, and 24th in the world.

History

It was founded in 1948 by students and staff who were relegated because of their political views from Humboldt University of Berlin, formerly the traditional Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität of Berlin, and at that time controlled by the authorities in the Soviet sector. In 1968, it was the center of the left-wing German student movement in parallel to that in Paris, London, and Berkeley. Activists of that time included the SDS and Rudi Dutschke. By the 1980s, it had become the largest German university with 66,000 students. With the restructuring of the Humboldt University after the German reunification, the Freie Universität Berlin was downsized to about 38,000 students in the 1990s.

The university has 12 departments, three interdisciplinary central institutes and other central service institutions:
