Academic Earth world-class education Online

Academic Earth is an organization dedicated to making world-class education available to everyone in the world. Their initial efforts involve making available videos of courses from the materials that major universities have already made available through programs such as MIT Open Courseware and Open Yale Courses. The nice thing is that it seems to act as a central location for viewing all of these materials, rather than having to jump between the websites maintained by different universities.

What they say -:
Academic Earth is an organization founded with the goal of giving everyone on earth access to a world-class education.

As more and more high quality educational content becomes available online for free, we ask ourselves, what are the real barriers to achieving a world class education? At Academic Earth, we are working to identify these barriers and find innovative ways to use technology to increase the ease of learning.

We are building a user-friendly educational ecosystem that will give internet users around the world the ability to easily find, interact with, and learn from full video courses and lectures from the world’s leading scholars. Our goal is to bring the best content together in one place and create an environment that in which that content is remarkably easy to use and in which user contributions make existing content increasingly valuable.

We invite those who share our passion to explore our website, participate in our online community, and help us continue to find new ways to make learning easier for everyone.

Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) 2009

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) are demand-driven fellowship programmes designed to foster capacity building within organizations in 57 developing countries by providing training and education to their mid-career staff members.

50% of the available fellowships should be awarded to fellowships for female candidates, and 50% of the available budget should be spent on candidates from sub-Saharan Africa. Apart from this, priority is given to candidates from deprived groups and/or from marginalized regions.

The NFP are funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the budget for development co-operation.

Employer support

The need for education and training must be linked to the institutional development of the organization the applicants are working for. This means that applicants must be nominated by their employers. In fact, applications without the support of an employer will not be considered.

NFP sub-programmes

* Fellowships for master’s degree programmes
* Fellowships for PhD studies
* Fellowships for short courses

NFP master’s, NFP short courses and NFP PhD studies award fellowships to individuals. NFP also finances refresher courses for NFP alumni who would like to prolong the effect of earlier learning and update their knowledge and skills.

To gain admission to a course or programme, an applicant has to contact the relevant institute. Choose one appropriate, relevant course of which you meet all the requirements. An admission letter from the institute or university is a requirement before you can apply for NFP. It should be understood that the admission letter does not guarantee a positive selection result since candidates from 57 countries will be competing for the scholarship.

WHO MAY APPLY
Qualified citizens from 57 countries including the Philippines.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Two sets of NFP applications with colored passport size photo.
2. Employer’s statement (see page 5 of the NFP application)
