BIGSSS Ph.D Fellowships 2015


Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences- BIGSSS invites applications to its PhD programme scheduled to commence on September 1, 2015.


BIGSSS offers 15 Ph.D. stipends of 1,300 euros/ month for 36 months, contingent on successful completion of each year. To support its Ph.D. fellows in achieving early scientific independence, it also provides funds for conducting, presenting and publishing research. There is no separate funding application, because all admitted applicants receive a stipend.


Successful applicants will pursue a topic in one of the three fields: global governance and regional integration, welfare state, inequality and quality of life, changing lives in changing socio-cultural contexts.

Eligibility: Candidates must have an MA degree (or national equivalents like the German “Diplom” or “Magister”) in a discipline related to political science, sociology, psychology, or related social science disciplines like.law, economics or mass communication. The degree must be completed by the end of July 2015 as well as display proficiency in English

HEC Paris Online courses 2015

HEC Paris announced a series of new online courses to be launched in 2015. The BSchool has already opened four courses for registration on the online MOOC platform Coursera; others will follow later in the year.

First in this series of MOOCs, is a course on business strategy titled Time to Reorganise, which will begin on January 13. The course explores how organizations can act strategically to protect or renew a sense of belonging in individuals and how in turn individuals reinterpret their associations with organisations, and how this dynamic affects social evolution.

This will be followed by a course on social entrepreneurship called Ticket for Change, which will go operational on February 24, followed by another course on how to set up a technology-based start-up (begins on April 1), which will focus on it will focus on the identification and evaluation of entrepreneurial opportunities in science and technology, with a comprehensive view of strategy, technology, commercial development, HR and finance issues.

The BSchool will also launch an online Executive Education Certificate program on Corporate Finance. The course will be conducted in two sessions, while one will be delivered in Mandarin, which will be launched on January 5, the other course, delivered in French, will go operational on January 30.

With five to ten short videos per week and testimonials from top decision-makers, the six-week program includes different activities such as weekly quizzes, an interactive forum discussion, real-life cases you’ll have to analyze, several live video sessions, three actionable tools to decide what to change around you, a personal situation to work on, and more to be discovered. You can take the MOOC for free or opt for an authentified certification for $49.

The course is open to all, and the lectures have been designed to be self-sufficient. Anyone interested in the fields of management, sociology, strategy, economics, and leadership will find the course beneficial.
