California State University Los Angeles overview

California State University, Los Angeles, is located in one of the most dynamic cities in the world and its 20,000 students reflect the diversity of Los Angeles and the world. Students can select from 61 undergraduate and 54 graduate degree programs. There is an emphasis throughout the university on direct student involvement in research and scholarly activities.

International Admissions

Applications should be completed online at www.csumentor.edu.
Freshman applicants must have the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Upper-division transfer applicants must have completed a minimum of 90 quarter units (60 semester units) with a GPA of 2.4 or higher.
Applicants for graduate programs must possess a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent in U.S. terms) from a recognized institution of higher education with a minimum 2.5 GPA (A=4.0) in the last 90 quarter units (60 semester units) attempted.
Student Body

The campus, located five miles from downtown Los Angeles, has an enrollment of 20,000 students.
The campus transit center has both train and bus stations that allow easy campus access.
Approximately 25 percent of the students are graduate students and women comprise 62 percent of the student body.
Students enjoy many activities on campus and they have easy access to beaches and mountains, as well as countless activities of a culturally diverse city.
Academics/Programs

TOEFL Test Requirements

The minimum TOEFL score for undergraduate students is 500 on the paper-based test, 173 on the computer-based test, or 61 on the Internet-based test.
The minimum TOEFL score for graduate students is 550 on the paper-based test, 213 on the computer-basted test, or 79 on the Internet-based test.
Applicants with lower TOEFL scores, or no TOEFL score, may enroll in the English Language Program at Cal State L.A. (www.calstatela.edu/exed/elp) for preparation to pass the TOEFL test.
